Easter Vacation - Opening Hours

In response to your feedback we have revised our opening hours and are now open for longer.  For more information check out the Information Learning Services website.

Summer opening hours

We will be changing over to vacation opening hours from Saturday 14 July. Please remember to renew your items if you are going away.

Normal (28-day) loan items are now being issued or renewed until September. However, loan periods for 7-day items are not changing, so you will need to renew them online or by phone if you're going to be away. Be aware, though, that you may not be able to renew an item if another user has placed a hold on it. Please do get in touch with us by phone - 01904 976700 - or email - library@yorksj.ac.uk - if you have any trouble renewing an item, or any queries.

Normal library opening hours will be in effect until 13 July (apart from the weekends of 30/6-1/7 and 7-8/7), after which we will move to the shorter vacation hours until September. You will still be able to access the ground floor and IT suites in the learning centre throughout the summer.

End of 24-hour opening trial

We are coming to the end of the trial of 24 hour opening of the library, on 19^th May. Thank you for all your feedback - we will evaluate this and the usage figures, and decide whether extended opening should be implemented permanently from September.

The second and third floors will be open overnight on Friday 18th, and we will return to normal overnight service as of Saturday.

Pilot of 24-hour opening

The whole library is now open 24 hour a day. This is currently a trial, running until 18 May.

You will be able to access the whole of the main collection of books, DVDs and audio recordings 24 hours a day, and be able to take items out as usual, using the self-issue machines. You will also be able to use the computers on the 1st and 2nd floor.

The 2nd floor will remain reserved for quiet study, and normal restrictions on food will apply (i.e. no hot food). Library and I.T. staff will not be available out-of-hours, but security staff will be on duty.

Remember to renew over Easter

This year, Easter vacation is from 2nd to 22nd April. If you are going away, please remember to renew your items.

You can renew online, by telephone or via the Self-Service machines in Fountains. If you have any difficulty, please call in and speak to staff at the QuestionPoint, or contact us by phone (01904 876700) or email (libraryqueries@yorksj.ac.uk). 7-day loans will not automatically be extended, so please make sure that you remember to renew in order to avoid fines.

As usual, there will be changes to staffing hours over Easter.

Restricted opening hours during Welcome Week

The learning centre will only be staffed until 7pm during Welcome Week (19th-24th September). There will be 24-hour access to the ground floor and IT suites.

Week commencing the 26th, we will be moving to our new opening times, 8am-9:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-7pm Friday. For full details of Autumn term opening times, please see the website.

Changes to due dates for library items over Summer

From Friday 13 May 28 and 7 day loan items will be issued until 14 October.

All student & staff profiles will be allowed to borrow 45 items. The only exceptions will be those students finishing their courses in the next couple of months and external members of the library, who are not enrolled on a course or employed by YSJU.

Please note:-

Students can only take 5 items out from the YHL.

The increase in allocation is only on 28 & 7 day loan items.

York Hospital Health Library and Information Service - opening times

Please note that from the week beginning the 27th July the York Hospital Health Library and Information Service, located on the first floor of the Fountains Learning Centre, will be closing at 5pm. Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday 1st September.

Fountains Learning Centre – Christmas and New Year Closure

Please note, the Fountains Learning centre will close completely at 17.00 on Tuesday 23rd December and re-open at 7.30 am on Monday 5th January (this includes the closure of IT rooms 1 and 2). During this period alternative IT facilities will be available in Holgate and Temple Foyer.

From Friday 19th December Fountains Learning Centre will close daily at midnight and reopen at 7.30am each morning (this includes the closure of IT rooms 1 and 2). Alternative IT facilities will be available as above.
